Wimbledon National Trust Association was founded in 1982. Currently we have around170 members in and around South West London. Our objectives are to promote the National Trust locally, raise funds in its support and to enrich members' understanding of its work.
We organise a variety of activities for our members which include:
- Monthly coach outings April - September
- Monthly lectures October/November and January - April
- Social and Fund Raising Events including a Christmas Lunch
- Annual 4 night holiday and a 2 night weekend break
- Monthly Town & Around Walks and Visits
We also aim to support our local property Morden Hall Park and in the past have provided funds to support their successful bid for heritage grants, which have enabled them to provide a very popular children's play area and renovate and open up the stable block. Since 1990 we have raised over £173,000
In the past our donations have contributed to Morden Hall Park installing a Rose Arbour, re-stocking the rose beds, providing funds for a new bed for climbing roses on the outside of the stable wall near the picnic area and waders and life jackets to be used in the Wetlands. We 've provided the bulbs which flowered in the grass areas between the garden centre and the Snuff Mill and in other parts of the park. We also funded 2 new bridges over the stream in the Rose Garden which were installed last year. Previously we funded the building of four accessible raised wooden beds for planting in an area in the overflow car park which is being converted to provide a space for volunteers and community groups to undertake horticultural training. Last year we funded 5 rustic wooden benches and an Echo meter touch 2 bat detector and tablet computer and dissolved oxygen meter and electrolyte solution. This year we have funded a mobile digital projector which will allow clear projection of presentations and films in the Stable Yard and elsewhere outdoors. We have again donated to the National Trust Neptune Coastline campaign.
Wimbledon National Trust Association is independent of the National Trust and governed by a constitution common to all the charity's Centres and Associations. Our affairs are conducted by a committee of officers and members, who are elected at our Annual General Meeting, which is held in March or April each year. Membership is now open to all whether members of the National Trust or not. So do come and join us as you will be assured of a warm welcome.
